As you know, I’ve been studying the Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Modelling at Elisava and this week I have had to present the final project. As had been announced in the teasers I posted (more on my Facebook profile, which you can follow and contains many more entries), I realized the project on a new concept of autonomous urban vehicle where people can sitfacing 2 to 2, very small, but with large luggage capacity and habitability.

I had a blog entry a while ago where you could see there was already people working on an already operating taxi, with no driver needed. Already then, I specified that it should be considered a more focused on comfort package forgeting about the space occupied by the driver. If we also subtract the volume of the conventional engine and add motor in wheels, the result is the Renault Exedra.

It becomes a new range of means of transport, between public and private, fully automated and usable with applications for smartphones, tablets or web based. The user would have a kind of annual subscription and then pay for the use of the vehicle when necessary, without having to make a payment of over 10,000€ for having their own vehicle, enjoying a more efficient use of energy and space in town because it would be shared with other users.

There are already similar projects, such as the Ultra PRT, ATNMBL, Masdar City Pod Car or concepts such as the JaguarMark XXI. However, my concept sought to integrate this idea into the Renault range, which is a brand that is worrying much about electrical energy, ecology and new vehicles that could integrate it.

Comfort was one of the strongest points of the vehicle, as the room layout and the large trunk (550 liters) would get over the bad points of the current taxi. In addition, by providing integrated interactive screens on the windows, wi-fi, webcam and a large usable space, versatility go hand in hand, being able to perform thousands of activities until you reach the destination.

Considering the aesthetics, I have based my sketches and ideas on one of the first means of transporting people, the carriage, as well as natural elements like flowers, in which each element embrace a central node that must protect and care (the passengers in our case).

Total for the city, a vehicle must be built on it and follow the same aesthetics, in this case the predominance of modern architecture with cutting planes and the culture of light, graffiti, interaction and communication.

And this is the final result:
